Let’s look at the main ingredients:

  • Apples
  • Natural nut butter
  • Coconut flakes
  • Sweetener
  • Sugar-free chocolate chips

Apples, nut butter, and coconut flakes are natural, nutritious food sources. Each has its own list of health benefits, providing fiber and healthy fats for a recipe that’s not only filling but good for you, too.

But what about the added milk in chocolate chips? Is dairy healthy?

Here’s what we know. Dairy is full of vitamins, minerals, protein, and natural fat energy. But if everyone consumed dairy all of the time, dairy farming would become abusive and unsustainable…

Let’s be mindful of our dairy intake. Buy dairy that comes from pasture-raised cows and limit consumption.

Sugar is what makes food unhealthy.

Add 164g of sugar (27g/”cookie”) to this recipe, and you’re looking at heartburn with an energy crash. (And you’ll be scouring the pantry for your next sugar snack within the hour.)

Substitute the sugar for a quality sugar alcohol, and this dessert becomes nourishment. The ingredients provide vitamins, minerals, and long-lasting energy.

Apple Samoas “Cookies” Tips

1. Pipping not required

Unless you’re trying to make these Apple Samoa “cookies” look professional, you don’t need a pipping kit. Simply melt the chocolate in a bowl and use a spoon to drizzle chocolate over your cookies.

2. Core your apple

No, it’s not important for your Apple Samoa “cookies” to have the perfect ring shape. But if that’s what you’re going for, you’ll want to use an apple corer. What’s more, it makes preparation fast and efficient.

3. Use parchment or wax paper

To make cleanup easy, place your apple slices on a piece of parchment or wax paper before you begin adding your toppings. That way you can easily wrap up and discard any extra nut butter, coconut flakes, or chocolate that happens to fall off.

4. Use red, yellow, or green apples

Red apples like Honeycrisp and Fuji will lend the sweetest taste whereas Granny Smith and Pink Ladies will be a bit more tart.

5. Add nuts

If you want a little extra crunch, almond, peanut, pecan, or walnut pieces make an excellent addition to these treats. To incorporate them into the recipe, simply fold them into the nut butter mixture. Or, sprinkle them on top, making sure they’re pressed down firmly enough to stick. Then, proceed with the recipe.

6. Add sugar-free caramel

If you love the creamy, buttery flavor of caramel, and want to enhance the classic Samoas flavor even further, add a drizzle of your favorite sugar-free caramel sauce over the chocolate.

7. Switch up the nut butter

Mix and match different nut and seed butters such as peanut, almond, cashew, and sunflower butter for flavor profiles that are different and unique yet equally as delicious.

8. Got leftover chocolate chips?

Store them for later to make more apple Samoas “cookies”. Or, use them up with a batch of healthy chocolate chips cookies or sugar-free chocolate toffee!

9. How long can I store leftovers?

This recipe is best eaten right away. However, if you happen to have leftovers or make too many “cookies”, they can be placed in an airtight container and stored in the refrigerator for 2-3 days.
